Let's Talk,
Missouri!
A new initiative to increase knowledge and understanding about transgender identities, stories, rights, and inclusion across the state of Missouri. We'll do this through our goal of 1,000 conversations across the state.
About the Pledge
What?
The Let’s Talk Initiative is a 12-week pledge with a simple ask: Have one conversation a week with someone in your life about the transgender community. It can be anything from a conversation about the current political climate to offering to define a few vocabulary words to sharing your personal allyship journey.
Who?
This initiative is for anyone who considers themselves an ally to the transgender community, both LGBTQ+ and not. If you have found yourself shocked at the hate and misinformation spreading through the state, if you have been wondering what you can do to help, look no further!
We are hoping that these conversations will reach those who are "in the middle" on these issues—folks who may not be sure how they feel or who have no idea the scale of the hate being directed towards the transgender community.
When?
The official pledge will run from February 1st to April 26th (though you can join at any time), and we hope that you take the skills you’ve learned to continue these conversations long after this!
How?
We want to make sure you have all the support you need to have safe and meaningful conversations, and we will be creating and sharing a resource library with all our advocates on all manner of conversation skills, safety planning tools, and messaging guidance for “hot button” topics.
Why?
As leaders of PFLAG Greater St. Louis, Metro Trans Umbrella Group, and TransParent, we are a group of longtime grassroots advocates building understanding and inclusion in every way that we can. This year we traveled to Jefferson City, planned celebrations and protests, and fought to uplift and protect our community, and one of the biggest things we found wherever we went was confusion, curiosity, or a desire to help with no idea where to start.
After watching the ways misinformation continues to grow and drive hate toward the transgender community, we decided to do something more about it and equip our allies to have active and proactive conversations with the people who know and trust them about these topics.
